WHAT WE DO

TWiMMI's main services

This is mainly achieved through the following activities:

  • Maintaining positive dialogue with the Government of Tanzania and Development Partners to ensure that there are supportive policy and regulatory frameworks for women in the mining and mineral industry especially ASM

  • Resource mobilization for industry development programs for women in mining and mineral industry.

  • Establishing and maintaining solid relationships with partners at different levels both local and international.

These are activities implemented by TWiMMI and partners to enhance the industry's capacity to produce quality and reliable products according to the market requirements. This is mainly realized through:

  • Skills capacity building programs of the Mineral Value chain Provision of industry business formalization facilitation such as obtaining licenses and permits, setting up mineral value addition workshops, arranging for necessary export processes to encourage industrialization and local content
  • Ensuring that markets standards and their governing systems are well translated to entrepreneurs for compliance purpose. TWiMMI's main SDG's alignments are:
    • SDG 1: No Poverty - TWiMMI aims to empower women in the mining and mineral industry to achieve a comprehensive organization and to influence their collective strength for improved income and employment, contributing to the country's economy, thus reducing poverty among women in the mining sector
    • SDG 5: Gender Equality - TWiMMI addresses the challenges hindering women's participation in the country's mining sector, including connecting women businesses and financial institutions with loans and financial assistance, and providing various pieces of training aimed at empowering women to produce quality locally value-added products. TWiMMI also provides training on gender issues and advises the Government and stakeholders to revive gender issues in programs.
    • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth - TWiMMI aims to empower women entrepreneurs in the mining and mineral industry through strategic and innovative development and promotional activities. TWiMMI creates a single voice of women SMEs in the mining and mineral industry value chain locally, regionally and internationally with a common understanding that the challenge is about empowering women in accessing equal economic opportunities for poverty eradication.
    • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure - TWiMMI's services include creating a business enabling environment, such as maintaining positive dialogue with the Government of Tanzania and Development Partners to ensure that there are supportive policy and regulatory frameworks for women in mining and mineral industry, and providing technical support services, such as skills capacity building programs and provision of industry business formalization facilitation.
    • SGD 13 :Climate Action- TWiMMI, is dedicated to knowledge transfer to women in the mining and mineral industry on action to be taken to offset climate change impact at each level of the mineral value chain.

At TWiMMI, we recognize the importance of addressing the issue of climate change in the mining and mineral industry. As such, we are committed to advocating for sustainable development goals that focus on reducing carbon emissions, promoting sustainable practices and protecting the environment. This includes working with local mining communities to provide education and training on responsible mining practices that promote sustainable mining methods. We also actively engage with government institutions, development partners, and private sector organizations to advocate for policies and regulations that support the transition to a low-carbon economy and promote the responsible use of natural resources. Together, we can work towards a sustainable future for the mining and mineral industry, and contribute to the global effort to combat climate change.
