About Tanzania Women in Mining & Mineral Industry

TWiMMI is a pioneering organization in Tanzania established to promote inclusive participation of women and youth across the entire mining value chain. We support economic empowerment, professional growth, environmental stewardship, and policy advocacy for sustainable sectoral transformation.

Established in 2021, TWiMMI was born out of a collective vision—to empower Tanzanian women and youth across the mining value chain. In just three years, we’ve supported over 3,900 individuals, influencing policy, promoting innovation, and positioning Tanzania as a hub for gender-inclusive mining excellence

Key Focus Area

Empowering the entire mineral value Chain from mine to market through Inclusion, Innovation, and Strategic capacity building

Mineral Traders

Our PAMOJA Initiative has trained traders from across East and Southern Africa in gemstone identification, cutting, and trade—equipping them for competitive global markets.

Women & Youth Miners

Through regional trainings and safety programs, we’ve provided over 3,400 PPEs, financial literacy, and health insurance support to miners in Lindi, Kahama, Winza, and Shinyanga.

Value Addition

From on-site learning in Morogoro to international showcases, we promote Tanzanian craftsmanship and aim to establish a dedicated Value Addition Centre for gemstone graduates.

Service Providers

TWiMMI enables women-led services to support the ASM ecosystem with logistics, tech access, and professional development—shared regionally via the Resilience Dialogue.

Mining Professionals

Through leadership forums, conferences, and international programs like LEAD (UCT) and the Ghana Summer School, TWiMMI members are shaping policy and setting standards.
